The CBR lift index is a test used as an aid to the design of floors or foundation layers. The laboratory test uses a circular piston to penetrate, at a constant speed, the soil compacted in a mold. The index is expressed as the ratio between the unit load on the piston required to penetrate 2.5 mm and 5 mm the test soil, compared to standard unit loads
