Axial load test on foundation piles

Load tests performed on foundation piles are distinguished in pilot tests and acceptance tests. Those pilots are designed to verify the capacity of specially constructed piles, which will not be part of the piling, and are performed by stressing the elements to the breaking load. The tests are performed on a small percentage of the elements of the piling in order to verify the mechanical characteristics and the size of the yields. The test load is normally equal to 1.5 times the design load. The main difficulty of the test is the realization of suitable contrast systems in order to insert the hydraulic cylinders between them and the pole. The load is applied by means of hydraulic cylinders connected to an hydraulic unit with a manometer for measuring the applied force. The measures of the settlements are carried out with centesimal comparators appropriately bound to load bearing beams
